Honey–Not Just For Bees and Bears
We have all heard of different and strange remedies for different kinds of illnesses. Well, since I have just gotten over being sick, I’d thought I would share some of my findings. The major plaguing annoyance of being sick is that sore throat. I got to the point that I couldn’t eat, swallow, and almost couldn’t breathe; needless to say: I was desperate. I did what any other self-respecting woman would do…I googled it. The first site advised to mix cayenne pepper and water and gargle it. I tried that. Ugh! That is truly one of the most disgusting things I have ever tasted. I would almost rather stay sick than ever taste that combo again.
So as I was trying that concoction, my mom suggested I warm up some water and add lemon and honey. This was amazing. Not only did it taste great, it actually helped my throat a little bit–at least enough so I didn’t have to lie in the fetal position while I tried to swallow.
So last night–well, I guess early this morning– at 3 a.m. I woke up coughing to the high heavens. I was really nervous that I wouldn’t get enough sleep to come into work the next day. I tried drinking lots of water, but it didn’t help. It was just cough after cough. So I decided that would be the perfect time to try out something I had just saw online the day before. I went into the kitchen and swallowed a mouth-full of honey. This instantly calmed my throat. It worked instantly. I didn’t wake up coughing the rest of the night. It was great. The news story that I had read early said that honey acts the same as cough syrup. It soothes the throat. So keep this in mind next time you have a bad cough. It is really a miracle!

Try adding ginger to the honey. Not only does that instantly get rid of the dry cough, it actually cures it.
Add Basil for that extra punch.
